As a kick-off to MSM’s food drive benefiting the Vernon Township food pantry, MSM held its 5th annual cook-off on Friday, February 22, 2019. Chefs from both MSM and INT worked hard creating everyone’s favorite, chicken noodle soup.
As a twist to this year’s event, and as an effort to include those who prefer baking, a chocolate chip cookie bakeoff category was added as well. 5 chefs competed to be crowned the winner of the chicken soup category, and 6 competed for the title of Pastry Chef.
Only one brave contestant, Robert Shaw, entered both categories. Judges were given the opportunity to place up to 4 votes in each category. Simply by attending the event, each judge was given one vote. However, for every 3 donated non-perishable food items or dollars, they received an additional vote for both the soup and cookies, up to 3 additional votes.
After all the votes were counted, the winner of the chicken noodle soup category, finishing in the first place, for the 2nd year in a row, was Greg Benson! The winner of the chocolate chip cookie category– Louie Filskov! A great job by all the chefs. Finally, a big thank you to everyone who brought in donations for the Vernon Township food pantry.
